Jupiter C

Glencoe Models Kit #05103 - "A Plastic Model Conversion" - Likely Built As A Mercury Redstone

2026-04-01

Picked up a Glencoe Models Jupiter C kit from Chris Viscomi. It's an Out Of Production kit, circa 1990.

Plan is to make this into a mid powered rocket, probably with a custom wood turned Mercury Capsule and Escape Tower.

Body nominal diameter is 1-1/2" o.d... so a BT-55 / C-55 should work for an internal support tube. More on that later.

2026-04-01 My plan is a rear eject: 24mm motor mount utilizing a Pop & Pull Eject.

2026-07-10 Mercury Capsule Lathe Turning and LES Tower Center Support

Turned the Mercury Capsule on the wood lathe.

I'm using a 1/4" Dowel as a LES Tower Center Support. Glued it into the capsule, using the lathe to center everything up.

LES Motor

For the LES Motor I simply used a 8-1/2" long strip of 1-1/8" wide paper, applied some Elmer's White Glue, and wrapped it around the dowel.
